A FAMILY united to raise more than £2,500 for Oldham's young people after the loss of a "happy, lively and fun-loving" teen.

Back in May, the family of Tyrese Glasgow (12) came together to run the Manchester 10k in aid of Mahdlo Youth Zone.

And now they have handed over £2,521.26 to the organisation after a special visit where they were shown the 13 to 19-year-old session, which includes sports, arts, a kick pitch and dance studio.

Saddleworth School pupil Tyrese, from Mossley, was found tragically hanged in his bedroom on June 15, last year, after he went back to collect his school books.

Tyrese's aunt Jade Glasgow said on behalf of the family: "Running in Tyrese's memory and raising the money for Mahdlo was a personal honour for each family member who ran the 10k.

"None of us are real runners and it was a huge challenge but knowing how much Mahdlo meant to Tyrese spurred us on to train and push ourselves outside of our comfort zones.

"Our lives were touched and affected immensely when Ty passed away, but it is so important that we continue to keep Tyrese's memory alive.

"We raised an incredible amount for Mahdlo thanks to the generous donations from friends and family. This will allow Mahdlo to continue with the fantastic work they do with the young people of Oldham and surrounding areas."

A total of 16 family members were joined by eight Mahdlo staff members for the 10k Great Manchester Run on May 28.

Mahdlo's development manager Claire Crossfield said: "Having the support of Tyrese's family and friends means so much to us.

"The funds raised in his memory will be used to support our Holiday Zone, which provides inspirational activities to young people during school holidays.

"We have chosen to use the funds in this way as Tyrese regularly attended Holiday Zone. He was a popular member and will be fondly remembered by us all."
